Intro Track

At 2:42 - Greetings Xenophiles!

That record by Ella Fitzgerald and Chuck Webb hit the number 1 spot how many years ago today?

Count ’em - 88! It was 1938.

On this day in 1876 General Custer was wiped out by the Sioux and Cheyenne warriors at the Battle of Little Bighorn. Little or Big? Needs to make up it’s mind.

In 1967 the first global satellite television program: “Our World” was broadcast, featuring 19 acts representing 19 nations, including The Beatles singing this:

Happy Birthday Carly Simon - 83 today - can you believe it? And did you know that Mick Jagger sings backing vocals on that?

George Michael should have been 63 today.

Kirk & Gee Exit Interview

Part 1 - Update

The Mo Chits – update on the album, recent gigs, The Mo?

The Mo Chits are on hiatus for now. We accomplished most of what we set out to do: album, local shows at nice venues, played on the radio, collaborated with great local musicians (Oigǎn, Andrea Runceanu), a couple festivals and a tour. The dreams that remain are pressing records and getting the band to Detroit.

The Mo continues with the gals and I will be back for shows (possibly as early as November of this year!). We will also work on having events in Portugal and look for events in the summer.

DJ-ing

Recent gig at Bar Ton with the remix of Thunderclap (which is the first song we’ve chosen), got a great response from someone. Inspired Mihai and me to think about releasing it.

What else is new?

Did a yogi-in-residence at Akasha for 10 days

Moving to Lisbon to teach social studies and yoga (Yocial Studies!), living close to the beach and bolstering my Portuguese

Who is Gee?

Seeker of light and beauty, entrepreneur, designer, educator, film lover, yoga enthusiast, Beatlemaniac

How did you and Kirk get together?

G saw Kirk from across the room at a school in Brazil during a faculty orientation event. 2 weeks later they were living together. 4 months later they were engaged; 4 months after that they were married; 4 months after that they moved to Bangkok. Married now for 15 years.

What is Gee doing?

CEO and CCO of EKG Collective. She is consulting (among many other things) for international schools and offering creative services for other consultants in education.

Part 3 - The lure of Portugal

What prompted the move?

Portugal has been on our radar for many years, and the job description was a perfect fit for Kirk. And we’ve been wanting to live near the beach. G gets to speak her native language and Kirk gets to become more proficient.

Did you find Portugal or did Portugal find you?

Bit of both! Kirk was looking for jobs to supplement the income, and when Portugal popped up we had to go for it.

Where will you go? What will you do?

Lisbon, Kirk will be teaching and taking surfing lessons, and G will be consulting and learning to play the bass.

What will you miss most from Romania?

The people, the friends and musicians. The mountains.

What lessons did Romania teach you?

It taught Kirk to be a bit less sentimental about things and how to drive more aggressively. Sometimes history is not so far in the rear view mirror. For G, literally how to drive! And how to look beyond first impressions, what it’s like to hike in the mountains.

Next Chapter

What plans and dreams do you have for Portugal?

Open a yoga studio, bring The Mo Chits and The Mo, embrace a more equanimous and meditative mindset/lifestyle, reconnect with Portuguese

Is it a stepping stone or a destination?

Most likely a destination

What will you leave behind (Mo Chits, for example)?

Tons of friends, sarmale, the coolest apartment we’ve ever lived in (HQ), a dynamic music scene, a growing yoga scene

When will you be back for a visit?

Maybe November! Definitely within the year, and every year thereafter. Romania is home.
